Women in the Orchestra

In case you missed a class, here is an hour and a half long public discussion with three influential female performers in well known orchestras.  Even just skipping to different parts of the discussion, you can hear discussions about the hierarchy in an orchestra (55:00), the history of women in music, and essentially a great overview of women in music from a first-person perspective.

Note: the following is not my writing, but the official description of the video:
Three pioneering female classical musicians—Jacqui Danilow, bass player at the Metropolitan Opera for thirty years; Laura Flax, principal clarinetist at the New York City Opera since 1984; and Orin O'Brien, member of the New York Philharmonic since 1966—tell their stories and discuss the path of upcoming professional female musicians. Moderated by Deborah Siegel, author of Sisterhood, Interrupted: From Radical Women to Grrls Gone Wild. This event took place at the Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art on June 13, 2009.
