One of the women mentioned in the conference session I attended was Aretha Franklin. According to the presenter, one of her greatest achievements was to be the first woman inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987. I feel Aretha Franklin is better known for her other achievements. Before you go and say "But Amanda- this is a great step in equality for women in the field of music!", please keep in mind that the Rock and Roll Hall of fame didn't start until 1986, one year prior to Franklin's induction. I believe this particular milestone has more to do with her talent as a musician, not as a female musician.
Either way, she's sayin' a little prayer for us. :-)
