This is the official Baltimore Symphony Orchestra preview for the 2009-2010 Season under the direction of Marin Alsop. I believe they did a great job keeping the director's gender a non-issue. While Alsop does wear makeup and earrings, she is not trying to be "more attractive" or masking what she really looks like. Neither is the Symphony trying to portray anything other than what they have.
It was brought to my attention over the past weekend that for the first year or two of Alsop's employment was a subject of great debate, where many thought Alsop was hired for the wrong reasons. Fortunately, it seems Alsop has found her way into Baltimore's hearts (at least the hearts of Baltimore's music educators!)
