Ethel Leginska

Ethel Leginska is a renowned pianist and conductor of the early twentieth century. These are two marketing pictures of her. The one on the right is of her when she was a touring pianist. The one on the left is of her as a conductor. When discussing her look as a conductor, she wanted to dress like this so people would stop looking at her for her image, and just pay attention to the music. It is interesting that as a pianist, she wears a dress that is feminine with a soft look down at whatever she is holding. In the conducting photo, she has a much more “masculine” stance and is wearing a tuxedo.
