She won the Grammy for Best New Artist this year even though most people have never heard her name. Everyone was asking, "Who is Esperanza Spalding?" Well, she is a young, beautiful jazz bassist. Her youth, looks, and gender have made her a more publicized jazz musician, but first she is amazingly talented. The world of jazz instrumentalists is usually dominated by men, assuming women do most of the singing. Esperanza sings and plays the upright bass, which is very impressive.
